A ball signed by Babe Ruth is a transcendent object. Its appeal reaches beyond the circles of sports memorabilia enthusiasts, earning iconic recognition in the larger realm of Americana. A superior example is offered here, purported to have been obtained by a crew member on the set of the film "The Pride of the Yankees" in 1942. Perfectly placed by Ruth on the heart of the sweet spot of this OAL (Harridge) ball is his fluidly rendered signature in exceptionally bold black fountain pen. The strength of the autograph has warranted a Mint 9 rating by PSA/DNA, a rarely seen assessment for a Ruth signature on horsehide. The ball’s current state of preservation is outstanding, remaining only mildly toned with minimal evidence of handling. In terms of condition and overall aesthetic quality, this specimen easily ranks among the elite Ruth singles ever offered publicly.
