While the 1986 Fleer Michael Jordan card is the most widely desired basketball card in the industry and is recognized as his “rookie” card, many don't realize that well before the landmark Fleer edition, Star Company produced comprehensive basketball sets that included the “true” Michael Jordan rookie card in the 1984-85 season. Like the 1986 Fleer card, Jordan is pictured in his Chicago Bulls red road uniform in action against the New Jersey Nets.
Presented here is this special Star Company card featuring an impressive BGS NM-MT+ 8.5 rating, along with Michael’s classic autograph in beautiful blue marker. The signature was obtained at the 2016 Upper Deck Flight School autograph signing and has a unique UDA sticker on the reverse. Michael’s penmanship has received a Beckett 10 rating and likely one of the best signed 1984-85 Star Co. Jordan rookies ever to be offered.
The Star Company cards are delightful. Although not offered through mass distribution, they filled the void for aficionados when Topps abandoned the basketball space after the 1981-82 season, and before Fleer introduced their 1986-87 set. That timing enabled Star Company to be the manufacturer of Michael Jordan’s first NBA-licensed card, this one!
