Just like the movie character that Gary Cooper would portray in Pride of the Yankees, Roger Maris was the unlikely hero – the man who, when put on the spot, rose to the occasion and got the job done without complaint or fanfare. This was Roger Maris in the early 1960s, quietly matching Mickey Mantle blast-for-blast as other more dynamic and controversial players drew all the ink in the sports pages.

This brilliant shot of Roger Maris completely sums up the silent but strong hero. And, as far as signed Roger Maris 8x10s go, this ranks up there as one of the most visually pleasing. The color photo dramatically shows Maris, bat on shoulder looking over his shoulder with Yankee Stadium looming large in the background. Combine this dramatic shot with his absolutely perfect bold blue signature and “Best Always” inscription, and you have a stunning piece that would be the cornerstone of any advanced autograph collection. The photograph shows light toning with just slight edge wear and the signature is in brilliant blue marker. The back of the print is blank, save for the Kodak stamping. Encapsulated by PSA/DNA and graded a perfect Gem Mint 10. Also includes full LOA from JSA.
