This uniquely designed National Academy of Sports Annual Award was presented to Red Auerbach in recognition of the Celtics 1964-65 Championship season. Created by Balfour, the trophy features an angled cylindrical wood base that supports a pointed brass star and an engraved brass placard with titling that includes "1964-65 NBA CHAMPIONS". The piece stands 10 1/2 inch tall. The Celtics dedicated the 1964-65 season to the memory of Walter Brown, the team's founder and owner who had passed away before the start of the season. They jumped out of the gate with 11 straight wins and went on to post what was then an NBA-high 62 victories, 14 more than Eastern Division runnerup Cincinnati and 13 more than Western Division leader Los Angeles. Includes a letter of provenance from the Auerbach estate.
