The 1961 NBA All-Star Game played in Syracuse, N.Y. saw rookie sensation Oscar Robertson of Cincinnati upstage the veterans and lead the West to an overwhelming 153-131 triumph over the East. Robertson had 23 points and 14 assists on his way to the game's MVP Award. His 14 assists broke Bob Cousy's All-Star Game mark of 13. St. Louis's Bob Pettit scored 29 points as the West put together the highest-scoring first quarter in All-Star history, running up a 47-19 lead in the game's first 12 minutes. Boston's Bill Russell led the East with 24 points and Syracuse's Dolph Schayes posted 21. For his contribution as the coach of the East team Red Auerbach received this high quality custom made Wilson golf bag and full set of matching clubs. The red and white bag features a large 1961 NBA All-Star Game logo on the front above the name "Red Auerbach". A full set of 14 Wilson clubs includes 4 woods, a full set of Wilson Sam Snead Signature irons and 2 putters. One of the putters is custom engraved, "Made Expressly for Red Auerbach" on its 24k gold plated head. All of the clubs feature a taped ring below their handles with a written name identifier "Auerbach, Arnold." The bag and clubs all show extensive use. A tag from Woodmont Country Club in Rockville, Maryland is affixed to the bag with a label that reads, "Auerbach, Arnold 773". The bag contains a blank scorecard, band-aid and pencil. This very generous and functional All-Star Game memento was clearly utilized and enjoyed by Red. Includes a letter of provenance from the Auerbach estate.
