Presented here is a unique piece of memorabilia celebrating the great Willie Mays and his famous play, known as "The Catch", in Game 1 of the 1954 World Series. The image of a #24 jersey sprinting towards the wall in deep center field at the Polo Grounds and reaching up to rob Cleveland's Vic Wertz of extra bases is one of the most recognizable moments in baseball history. With the score tied 2-2 in the 8th inning with two on and no outs, Mays' over-the-shoulder catch saved two runs. The Giants won in extra innings and went on to sweep the Indians for their last World Series title in New York before moving west to San Francisco in 1958.

This brass tabletop clock made by Timeworks (Berkeley, CA) is battery operated perfect for a Giants fan's home or office decor. Best part of all, it's signed by Willie Mays in silver marker. Battery-operated and in fine working condition, it has Mays' No. "24" in place of the '12' on the dial. The contemporary antique weighs nearly 3 lbs. The clock itself is 6.5" in diameter with an arched stand that raises it another half inch. This piece must be rare as we could find no other examples online either for sale or that have sold before. Our consignor was a longtime Giants employee who worked closely with Mays on PR and community relations initiatives for the club. Includes PSA/DNA COA.
