As the New York Yankees rolled over the Cincinnati Reds in five games in the 1961 World Series, vaunted Bronx Bomber dynasty was in full swing, nailing down their ninth World Series crown in the previous 15 years, a level of dominance unheard of in Major League Baseball and one not likely to be matched anytime soon. Tony Kubek, shortstop extraordinaire and a steadying influence on a squad loaded with superstar names, was a big contributor to that squad. In a nine-year Yankee career, Kubek would bat .266 with 57 home runs and three All-Star appearances to his name. This batting helmet hails to Kubek and that glorious 1961 World Series when the Yankees manhandled the Reds so briskly. The Size 7 helmet has American Baseball Cap labeling on the inside and shows a good deal of game use but remains essentially intact and without major difficulties, right down to the foam headband elements inside. The iconic Yankees interlocking "NY" insignia appears at the front of the helmet in a felt fabric affixed directly atop the painted symbol. Comes with a Letter of Authenticity from a collector noting the helmet had been purchased from the estate of a former Yankees team vice president. Same letter alluded to a crack in the helmet indicating it was worn when Kubek was hit by a pitch in that series.
