Awarded to defenseman Michael McEwen, this Balfour 14 karat gold ring features four round diamonds (1.20 karats); the ring around the face reads "1983 Stanley Cup Champions." One side is embossed with "McEwen" and the Islanders logo; the other side features four Stanley Cup trophies and is embossed "Islanders" and "80 81 82 83" to signify the team's four straight championships. McEwen's time with the Islanders was the highlight of his impressive 18-year hockey career. McEwen was selected by the New York Rangers in the 1976 NHL Draft. An offensive-minded defenseman, his talents immediately paid off as he helped guide the Rangers to the finals in 1979. However, he was traded to the Colorado Rockies where he clashed with Don Cherry. Fortunately, in 1980 McEwen was sent to the powerhouse Islanders, just in time to play a major part of the last three of their four consecutive Stanley Cups championships.  In the 1983 finals, the Islanders faced Wayne Gretzky and the fast rising Edmonton Oilers. The Islanders swept the Oilers, limiting Gretzky & Co. to just six goals in the four games in their first appearance in the finals. However, armed with that experience, the Oilers established their own dynasty with wins in 1984, 1985, 1987, 1988 and 1990, ending the Islanders' domination. Measurements: Size 11. Condition: Excellent overall condition, minor wear from use.
