On Dec. 21, 2003, Irvin “Irv” Favre, the father of three-time NFL MVP quarterback Brett Favre, suffered a fatal heart attack. He was 58 years old. The following day, playing with a heavy heart on Monday Night Football, Brett led the Green Bay Packers to an emphatic 41-7 victory over the Oakland Raiders. Favre threw for 399 yards and four touchdowns, one spectacular long pass after another, decimating the Raiders' defense with one of the greatest performances in his 13-year career. He finished just three yards shy of his career-high while sending the Raiders (4-11) to their worst loss in eight years.

This lot features a type signed condolence letter to Favre from Daniel Snyder, the owner of the Washington Redskins. It’s dated the same day as Favre’s miraculous gridiron performance, Dec. 22, 2003. The letter, which was typed on official Redskins stationary, reads, in part: “Dear Brett, My thoughts are with you as you mourn the loss of your father. Take time for your family, they need you. Cherish the things your father taught you, they will bring you courage.” He signed the letter in bold black marker, “Dan.” The letter includes its original envelope labeled with Snyder's official Redskins return address, postmarked 12/22/2003, and addressed to "Mr. Brett Favre" at the Packers team headquarters.

COA from PSA/DNA (AE81126).
