Unlike other upstart leagues that simply copied existing rules and norms, the ABA set out to completely revolutionize the game of basketball. The two most noticeable changes were the 3-point shot and the league’s distinctive red, white and blue basketball. The new ball seemed to embody the speed and irreverent play that came to typify the new league. This Rawlings RSS Official example was used in a 1973 game by the Memphis Tams and has been part of the collection of the team’s power forward Wil Jones. The red, white and blue leather shows great game use with scuffing and toning on the ball’s surface. “MEMPHIS TAMS 1973” is stamped into one of the ball’s white panels. While many commercial versions of the iconic ABA red, white and blue ball exist, very few can truly be called "game-used" and from the collection of a former All-Star like this one.
Includes LOA from Wil Jones.
