Basketball Hall of Famer Julius Erving competed for 16 seasons in professional basketball, the first five of which were spent in the now-defunct ABA. Much like Babe Ruth brought swagger to the sport of baseball, “Dr. J” can be credited with forever changing the basketball landscape by bringing the slam dunk into vogue. His flashy play and rim-rattling dunks helped the ABA grow into a potential threat to the NBA, and no single player in history is more responsible for the resulting merger between the two leagues.

Offered here is a Philadelphia 76ers jersey Erving wore as he was closing out his Hall of Fame NBA career during the 1986-87 campaign. It’s easily one of the very last number uniform number "6" jerseys ever worn in Sixers’ history. During the season, in which the Sixers finished second in the Atlantic Division standings with a 45-37 record, Erving ranked second on the team for points per game with 16.8 and averaged 4.4 boards per outing. This was the uniform style Erving wore as the Sixers were eliminated by the Milwaukee Bucks in the first round of the playoffs.

The red mesh roadster reads “SIXERS” arched across the front in white and blue tackle twill with his last name – “ERVING” – appearing in white on the reverse, both affixed above his iconic number "6." Lower left front tail reveals a pair of proper "Sand-Knit" manufacturer’s labels indicating “Designed & Tailored Exclusively for the Philadelphia 76ers” as well as his size ("40”). A "2" LB" tailoring swatch is affixed to the left of both labels. The jersey reveals “moderate” wear as is indicated by the experts at MEARS. Included within this lot is a pair of matching shorts, complete with “76ers” logo patch on the right front thigh. However, the shorts are not attributed to Erving but do complete the presentation nicely.

Includes LOA from MEARS (Graded A8) for the jersey.
