Originating from the personal collection of Roberto Clemente is a
significant award from the Puerto Rican slugger's July 24, 1970 tribute
night at Three Rivers Stadium. This quality silver-plated serving tray
produced by noted New York silversmiths Gorham Co. was presented to
Clemente by the Governor of Puerto Rico, Luis A. Ferre. Engraved with
the seal of Puerto Rico and inscribed (in Spanish), "The Honorable
Governor of the People of Puerto Rico Join The Deserved Tribute Offered
To The Puerto Rican Star Of Baseball Roberto Clemente July 24, 1970".
The facsimile signature of Governor Ferre appears below. The tray is in
fine overall condition with some typical light surface scratching.
Gorham hallmarks are stamped on the reverse. Tray measures 25" long.
This cherished Clemente Day heirloom is accompanied by a letter of
provenance from the Clemente family.
