With an assist (well, full credit actually) to noted PCL collector Mark Macrae, we were able to identify this item as what is likely the source photo used for the 1910 Obak card of Jimmy Lewis. This same image was also re-used to produce Lewis’s 1911 Obak card as well as for his T-4 premium. The lettering on the uniforms is different in the T-212 issue, while the script style lettering seen here appears on the T-4 examples.  The 4 ¼” by 6 ½” photo features a crystal clear image of Lewis and includes black stenciled lettering, “LEWIS SAN FRANCISCO CLUB” encircling his head. A black circle appears at his left shoulder.  The photo front shows moderate handling wear including a vertical fold line across the upper middle and the name “Lewis” written in pencil at left. The back has some adhesive and paper residue from album removal and an interesting pencil notation that reads, “Turned over to State league.” This unique photo originates from the estate of former Seals and Major League player Oscar “Ossie” Vitt.
