With an assist (well, full credit actually) to noted PCL collector Mark Macrae, we were able to identify this item as what is likely the source photo used for the 1910 Obak card of Kid Mohler. This same image was also re-used to produce Mohler’s 1911 Obak card as well as for his T-4 premium. The lettering on the uniforms is different in the T-212 issue, while the script style lettering seen here appears on the T-4 examples. The 4 ¼” by 6 ½” photo features a crystal clear image of Mohler and includes black stenciled lettering, “MOHLER SAN FRANCISCO CLUB” encircling his head. A black circle appears at his mid-section. The photo front shows some edge and corner wear and a small right border tear. The back has some adhesive residue from album removal. This unique photo originates from the estate of former Seals and Major League player Oscar “Ossie” Vitt.
