The date was July 17, 1941 in Cleveland, Ohio, where over 67,000 baseball fans had gathered in anticipation of a game between the New York Yankees and Cleveland Indians. The Yankees' star outfielder Joe DiMaggio had hit in a record 56 straight games, and the sell-out crowd wanted more. However, during the game Indians third baseman Ken Keltner made two diving stops of DiMaggio "rockets" down the line (in the first & seventh innings), and "The Streak" was history. The name Ken Keltner would go down in baseball lore and forever be linked with the great DiMaggio. Offered is an exceptional 8” by 10” photo signed by Joe DiMaggio, Ken Keltner and umpire Art Passarella. The scene shows Keltner vanquishing DiMaggio again on a close put-out at third. A caption on the back dates the scene to a May 19th, 1947 game in Cleveland. All three vintage signatures rate about 9/10 in uniform black fountain ink. The photo appears to be a vintage re-strike and grades EX-MT Pre-certified by PSA/DNA.
