There are no two names in the history of sports that evoke more reverence than Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig. Their legends have reached mythical proportions and their faces are woven into the tapestry of American history. Thus, their stature in the realm of sports memorabilia is similarly unparalleled. Offered here is an extraordinary example of one of the most sought after collectibles in the hobby.

This red-and-black stitched Wilson Official League (American Assoc.) baseball dates to the late 1920’s and was dual-signed by the two baseball immortals around that time. As usual, Ruth has commanded the sweet spot, while Gehrig owns the north panel. Both signatures appear in the same 7-8/10 sharp blue ink. Most Ruth/Gehrig balls are done in black, making this one stand out even more. Ideal placement allows both autographs to be visible from a single vantage point. The un-shellacked ball comes soiled and lightly toned, although its uniformly consistent color allows the manufacturing stamps, as well as the autographs, to remain perfectly legible. The “T.J. Hickey” stamp helps date the ball as he was the American Association President from 1919 to 1934.

Our consignor’s father was a bat boy for the Triple-A Indianapolis Indians (2nd oldest minor league franchise) of the American Association in the late 1920s and had the ball signed when the Yankees came to town for an exhibition game. An incredible, fresh-to-the-market gem.
