One of the most unique Lou Gehrig personal mementos we’ve had the pleasure to offer, this vintage brown bowlers hat was worn by The Iron Horse himself and has been inscribed on the silk interior with great care: "To Pops Lunken, The Al Smith of Dayton, Ohio, Most Sincerely from 'Lou' Gehrig. In 1928 Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig campaigned for presidential candidate Al Smith. Smith was well known for wearing a brown bowler, and it became the symbol of his campaign. Accompanying the hat is a vintage photograph (5 by 6 1/2 inches) of Ruth and Gehrig campaigning for Smith in which Gehrig is wearing what appears to be this very bowler hat and Ruth is also wearing a similar one. Pencil notations on the reverse of the photo read "Babe Ruth with Lou Gehrig in Columbus 10-23-28.” Both the hat and the photograph are in excellent condition with Gehrig’s interior inscription rating about 6 out of 10. EX-Barry Halper Collection.

Includes a signed Letter of Provenance from David Wells.

Includes full LOA from PSA/DNA.
