A month after Lou Gehrig succumbed to Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) at age 37, a memorial was held on July 4, 1941 at Yankee Stadium to honor the beloved "Iron Horse" and dedicate a monument to him in Memorial Park. Located behind center field of the stadium, his became the second to be erected, joining the one in place for former manager Miller Huggins. (Babe Ruth would follow in 1949.) This offered stub to the historic event is a terrific example, containing quite straight edges and fairly vibrant green color. The print is crisp on the front. There are some blemishes and wrinkles smattered throughouth the stub and a black mark streaking across the top left quadrant. If graded, we feel the stub would come out GD. A wonderful piece of history celebrating the life of one of the greatest to ever play the game from the Al Tapper Collection.
