Long before he was a skipper, Hall of Fame Manager Joe Torre played catcher for four different teams during his 18-year (1960 to ‘77) playing career in the major leagues including the Milwaukee Braves, Atlanta Braves, St. Louis Cardinals and the New York Mets. Torre was also a nine-time N.L. All-Star selection and was named N.L. MVP in 1971. This lot features a Joe Torre 1965 All-Star Game H&B Professional Model game-used bat. That year’s Mid-Summer Classic was held at Metropolitan Stadium in Minneapolis and Torre, who started at catcher, helped the Senior Circuit pull out a 6-5 victory by going 1-for-4 with a home run and two runs knocked in. The 35-inch, 32.3 ounce Louisville Slugger ash bat is engraved with the site of the All-Star Game (i.e. Minnesota) as well as Torre’s facsimile signature on the barrel. The bat is un-cracked and shows plenty of game use with pine tar remnants throughout the handle and dozens of baseball contact marks littered about the barrel. The knob of the bat is stamped “U1.” The end of the barrel contains a PSA/DNA cert. H53952 sticker matching up to online database as 1965 Torre ASG bat graded GU 8.
