The late Johnny Murphy started pitching for the New York Yankees in 1932 and played his final season in pinstripes in 1943. The late Joe DiMaggio started with the Bronx Bombers in 1936 and retired following the ’51 season. During the time these two teammates overlapped for the Yankees, the team won six World Series titles. This lot features a Joe DiMaggio “Old Timers Game” Hillerich & Bradsby bat that the Yankee Clipper signed and inscribed to his old teammate in 1966. On the barrel of the 36-inch bat, DiMaggio signed and inscribed it in blue marker as follows: “To John Murphy, To My Good Friend and Teammate, Best Wishes.” Though the signature and inscription has faded overtime, it remains very legible and rates about a 4-5/10 in our book. This particular bat, which DiMaggio used during the 1966 Old Timer’s Day Game at Yankee Stadium, even comes with photo documentation showing DiMaggio handing the bat to Murphy via an 8" x 10" photo. A terrific piece of Yankee lore gifted from one great Bronx Bomber to another.

Includes Letter of Provenance from the Murphy Family. Autograph pre-certified by PSA/DNA.
