The world knows Jesse Owens as one of the greatest athletes of all time, but track and field was not the only sport the four-time Olympic Gold Medalist was passionate about. Later in life Owens took up golf, a pastime he viewed as a “rare reward.” Owens’ favorite golfing buddies were Joe Black, one of the first men to integrate baseball after Jackie Robinson, and Ralph Metcalfe, silver medalist in the 100 Meters at the 1936 Olympics. Although he wasn’t a scratch golfer, he did win one tournament and was apparently so proud of this achievement that he placed the trophy beside his gold medals.

Offered here is Jesse Owens’ personal signature model MacGregor golf bag with a set of 14 clubs. Made of top-of-the-line tri-color leather, the white nameplate sewn to the side has “Jesse Owens" chain-stitched in red. The bag has a shoulder strap and multiple zippered storage pouches. It shows significant wear, with scuffs and light staining expected of a well-used personal golf bag. The MacGregor bag comes with Owens’ 14-piece set of clubs. The set includes 1-9 irons, a pitching wedge and sand wedge made by Northwestern, plus a tour driver, 3-Wood and 5-Wood from TaylorMade. The only club missing is the putter. The clubs show heavy use, with the scuffs and abrasions you would expect on a well-used set. Two ID tags are still affixed to the bag, one that appears to date from Jesse Owens’ lifetime and a second, newer tag dated 2003. A unique piece of Jesse Owens memorabilia that offers insight into how the great Olympian spent his rare leisure time with friends and family.

Includes LOA signed by each of Jesse Owens' three daughters.
