This pair of identical bronze coins commemorating Jesse Owens’ four medals at the 1936 Berlin Games is the same design as the one from the 1972 set produced by Coca-Cola depicting great moments in Olympic history (Lot 21). The coins have Owens’ likeness on the obverse with “XI OLYMPIAD BERLIN 1936 JESSE OWENS U.S.A.” and the reverse features the Olympic rings and a short description of Owens’ feats at the games. What makes them special is the fact that they belonged to Jesse Owens himself. Each coin measures 38mm in diameter and weighs 25 grams (unlike the aluminum cast 8-gram featherweight example that is part of Owen's complete 1972 Coca-Cola set). The two show medium wear with various ding and abrasions on their surface and discoloration from age. One is visibly more worn.
Includes LOA signed by each of Jesse Owens' three daughters.
