On January 13, 1992, the Black Heritage Society posthumously awarded their MLK Jr. Mountain Top Award to Jesse Owens. The plaque mounted on the award’s base sums up the reason Owens was given the honor: “For His Historical Contributions at the 1936 Olympic Games.” At those Berlin Games, Jesse Owens showed the world that a black man was just as good or better than white athletes, and demonstrated with his actions that athletics could be a peaceful way to bring equality to all races. It can be said that Martin Luther King, Jr. took Owens' example and applied it to his own actions when fighting for Civil Rights two decades after the 1936 Games. This impressive award consists of a finely sculpted bust of Martin Luther King, Jr. beside an abstract mountaintop mounted on a wooden base. The trophy has dimensions of 8" x 6" x 13" and weighs nine pounds. It shows very light handling and displays beautifully.

Includes LOA signed by each of Jesse Owens' three daughters.
