When the United States Olympic Committee needed an official ambassador at the 1976 Montreal Games, Jesse Owens got the call. Who better to represent the United States than the country’s greatest Olympian? To commemorate his service at the games, Owens was presented with this Olympic Participation Medal. These medals were only awarded to athletes, judges and officials at the games.

The medal, designed by Georges Huel and Pierre-Yves Pelletier, features the official logo of the '76 Games on one side the reverse has a stylized depiction of the Olympic Stadium with "XXIe Olympiade Montreal 1976." The medal is cast in copper and measures 45mm in diameter and weighs42 grams. Owens’ medal is housed in its original leather presentation case which has the official '76 Games logo stamped on the top in gold. The case shows medium wear from age and storage and the medal itself is in superb condition with no visible blemishes.

Includes LOA signed by each of Jesse Owens' three daughters.
