ADDENDUM: LATE ADDITION TO AUCTION; NOT IN CATALOG.

On April 15, 1947, in one of the most anticipated and publicized events in baseball history, Jackie Robinson donned his Brooklyn Dodgers uniform (wearing No. 42), trotted out to the field against the Boston Braves to man first base and, in an instant, demolished the color line that had barred black players from playing Major League Baseball. Much has been written about the impact of that day and Robinson’s admirable role in everything from sports in America to the dawning of the civil rights era, but suffice it say that no single baseball player in our history had as much impact on our country and in our culture than Jack Roosevelt Robinson. He would earn Rookie of the Year honors that season and help Brooklyn claim the National League pennant. Commensurate with his place in history, collector demand for Jackie Robinson single-signed baseballs continues to escalate rapidly.

Presented here is a late addition to this auction (post-catalog, online only): a striking Robinson single that certainly ranks in the upper echelon of examples we've handled. The Official National League (Feeney) ball is signed by Robinson with his typical side panel placement in bold blue ballpoint ink. The ball itself is super clean with an off-white color, bringing out the PSA/DNA graded 8/10 autograph superbly. Outstanding single signed baseball from the legendary Brooklyn Dodger Hall of Famer. Includes full LOA from PSA/DNA (Auto. Grade 8, Ball Grade 6, Overall 7).
