Presented here is an extremely rare press badge from the inaugural 1930 World Cup soccer (football) championship. Uruguay was selected as the host nation to further celebrate the centenary of its independence, and the Uruguay National Football Team was poised to defend its 1928 Amsterdam Olympic gold medal triumph on home soil. A total of 13 nations competed and all games were played in the capital city of Montevideo. The hosts and pre-tournament favorites advanced to the semifinals along with Argentina, United States and Yugoslavia. In the first ever World Cup Final, Uruguay defeated Argentina 4–2 with 93,000 on hand at Estadio Centenario to become the inaugural champions.

The elegant badge issued to a member of the press covering the first World Cup tournament is gold-plated with striking green enamel. Measuring 24mm in diameter, it has "PRENSA" (the Spanish word for press) at center with "CAMPEONATO MUNDIAL DE FOOTBALL - MONTEVIDEO - 1930" around the perimeter. The reverse appendage for wearing on one's jacket is perfectly intact. Maker "S.JOHNSON - MILANO" is engraved on the back. Comes in extremely fine condition with its original cardboard box -- another rarity.
