When Quaker Oats needed a spokesman to endorse their products in 1934, they went right to the top – Babe Ruth. Though the Babe was at the end of his career, he was still the greatest baseball player and easily the most recognizable person in America. As part of their ad campaign, Quaker Oats produced this striking 8 x 10 promotional premium available to members of the Babe Ruth Base Ball Club through the mail. Yankee Stadium serves as the backdrop to this iconic shot of the Babe seconds after he connected with another of his famous home run blasts. Ruth’s facsimile signature with the inscription, “To my Pal” has been added and the caption at the bottom reads, “Presented to the Members of Babe Ruth Base Ball Club.” Because these were sent through the mail and often glued into kids’ scrapbooks, most surviving examples are in poor condition. However, this example is the exception and grades very high. The edges are clean and crisp without any corner pin holes or edge wear. The reverse is blank and has some light toning. A beautiful example of one of the more popular Babe Ruth advertising pieces. This premium has been encapsulated and graded VG-EX 4 by PSA.
