The National League celebrated its 50th
Anniversary on Feb. 2, 1926, as a spectacular array of baseball legends descended upon Manhattan's Hotel Astor. Dozens of baseball dignitaries were in attendance including one of the game’s greatest players ever: eight-time N.L. batting champion Honus Wagner. This lot features the 1925 National League Golden Jubilee Baseball Pass that was issued to Wagner that evening.
The pass is presented inside a leather wallet (3.25” by 2.75”) that opens up to reveal a circular gold medallion insert designed in the shape of a baseball, set within a velvet matting. (It’s believed the medallion is 14K gold but we dare not remove it from its embedded position to see the stamp on reverse.) The gold medallion is engraved in blue with "1876-1925 National League Golden Jubilee."
Printed in gilt lettering upon the interior front cover is the number "367" (denoting the issue number of the pass) and the recipient's name: "MR. JOHN
WAGNER.” The pass was designed to be saved as a special keepsake by its recipients and we can recall only seeing a couple of examples of these ever offered in years past. The exterior binding displays moderate-to-heavy wear. The interior portions remain in excellent condition. The gold medallion is in Near-Mint condition.
Includes LOA from Leslie Blair Wagner, Honus Wagner’s granddaughter.
