A beautiful store display piece advertising Colgan’s Chips. This 1909 advertisement promotes the circular trading cards issued in violet and mint flavored gum tins. This one, featuring Frank Chance of the Chicago Cubs’ double play trio of Tinker to Evers to Chance and made famous through Franklin P. Adams’ “Baseball's Sad Lexicon” poem, was used to promote the company’s “Stars of the Diamond” E254 card series. The triangular shape of the piece continues the unorthodox circular format Colgan’s used for their card series. The red and green coloring is vibrant and strong against the warm tans and off-whites of the typography and card and packaging illustration. The piece has been attractively matted and framed to create a visually dazzling display.
