This lot offers a tremendously deep collection of 103 vintage cut signatures comprising mostly of 1920’s to 1940’s era ballplayers, 14 of whom are enshrined in Cooperstown. All come on tan/beige-colored, thick cardboard backings that have preserved the autographs and paper quite well. Most are grouped in bunches on variously shaped cardboard slab pieces, with some of the better names on their own individual pieces.

Hall of Famers include Jimmie Foxx, (2) Rogers Hornsby, Paul Waner, Tony Lazzeri, Arky Vaughan, Connie Mack, Ford C. Frick, Joe McCarthy, (2) Lefty Grove, Lefty Gomez, Ernie Lombardi, Red Ruffing, Joe Cronin, and (2) Gabby Harnett.

Others that we can recognize are Geo. Selkirk (NYY), John Whitehead, Zeke Bonura, Dixie Walker (4x AS), Cy Blanton, Joe Kuhel, Johnny Stone, Earl McNeely, Johnny Mihalic, (2) Jack Knott, (2) Jim Bottomley (‘28 AL MVP), Harry Davis, Charlie Bowles, Tom Daly, Art Fletcher, Jack Saltzgaver, Ben Chapman (NYY, 4x AS), Joe Cascarella, Wes Ferrell (’35 AL MVP runner-up), Bing Miller, Monte Weaver, Red Phillips, Sugar Cain, Russ Van Atta, Pete Appleton, George Turbeville, Harry Matuzak, Harry Kelley, Johnny Marcum, Jim Henry, Frank Crosetti (NYY), Bucky Harris, Joe Vosmik, Sam West (4x AS), Jim Walkup, Jimmie Dykes, John Rigney, Tony Rensa, Jack Hayes, Ed Linke, Bill Werber, Syd Cohen, Babe Dahlgren (NYY), Joe Glenn (NYY), Myril Hoag (NYY), (2) Van Mungo (4x AS), (2) Bucky Walters (’39 NL MVP & Triple Crown), Al Schacht, Pepper Martin (4x AS), Beau Bell, Doc Cramer (5x AS), Wally Millies, Red Rolfe (NYY, 4x AS), Dan MacFayden, Chuck Dressen, Larry Rosenthal, Billy Webb, Billy Jurges (3x AS), and (2) Oral Hildebrand (NYY).

There a few non-baseball players in this collection as well, one being 1930’s PGA golfer Wiffy Cox and another appearing to be South African cricketer Alan Melville whose career falls within the appropriate timeline.

As a side note, the Babe Ruth cut signature in Lot 254 comes from the same collection.

Autographs pre-certified by PSA/DNA.
