"Take Me Out to the Ball Game" is a 1908 Tin Pan Alley song by Jack Norworth and Albert Von Tilzer which became the unofficial anthem of Major League Baseball, even though neither of its authors had attended a game prior to writing the song. This lot features an extremely rare early 1900’s ornate silver baseball figural music box that plays the song (minus the lyrics) upon opening the large attached silver baseball. Finely decorated with a floral design on its base, which includes one corner that appears to almost represent home plate, the silver baseball and crisscrossing bats are specially decorated as well with a unique mod motif that includes the engraved stitches on the baseball itself and a clasp that allows it to open in order to play. The unique piece of musical sports memorabilia weighs four pounds.
