Ernie Shore had a short but brilliant seven-year career, finishing with a 65-43 record and a 2.45 ERA. Ernie made baseball history in 1915 when he was credited for pitching a perfect game while only facing 26 hitters. A young Babe Ruth had started that game and been thrown out after vociferously contesting a "ball-four" call on the game’s first batter, Ray Morgan. In the aftermath, Shore came in cold off the bench to relieve Ruth. Morgan was immediately thrown out stealing second and Shore proceeded to retire the next 26 batters to face him, the only pitcher ever credited for a perfect game while facing only 26 hitters and not being the starting pitcher! Shore has signed the side panel of this "Official Carolina League Baseball" ball and inscribed it “To Arthur Meyer with best wishes.” Below his signature and on the opposite panel is a complete notation of the perfect game in an unknown hand. Ex condition overall. Pre-certified by PSA/DNA.
