Addendum: Triborough Stadium was original name of this venue where 1936 U.S. Track & Field Olympic Trials were held.
On April 23, 2005, Icahn Stadium was opened on Randall’s Island, New York. This new stadium replaced the earlier Triborough Stadium (later named Downing Stadium) that had stood on this site from 1936 to 2002. Besides being home to everything from Negro League baseball, pro football and the Cosmos soccer team, Triborough Stadium was the site of 1936 U.S. Olympic Trials for Track and Field. Within in its confines on July 11, 1936, Jesse Owens thrilled 15,000 onlookers as he breezed through the qualification rounds for the three individual events he would dominate at the Berlin Olympics. To commemorate the new and honor the old, a large bolt was removed from the aging Triborough/Downing Stadium and encased in Lucite. This special artifact was presented to his Owen's daughter Marlene Owens Rankin, whose name is engraved on the front of the piece. A unique piece that honors the stadium in which Jesse Owens embarked on his history-making Olympic journey.
Includes LOA signed by each of Jesse Owens' three daughters.
