An important moment in sports history is captured here, as baseball star Babe Ruth, pictured in spring training in March 1920 with teammate Ping Bodie, makes his very first appearance in a New York Yankees uniform.

Ruth had been sold by the Boston Red Sox in the off season to the Yankees, where his fame and greatness would soon reach unprecedented heights. The acquistion of Ruth by the Yankees from Boston is talked about to this day, over 100 years later, and "The Curse of The Bambino" was endured by Red Sox fans for generations.

This first image of Ruth donning the Yankees uniform is really thought provoking, knowing the lasting impact on baseball and popular culture that was to come. Sorry, Ping Bodie collectors, you've been priced out of the market on this one.

PSA has beautifully encapsulated the classic image, an Original News Service Photo from Underwood & Underwood. The photo is the original file copy kept by Underwood & Underwood and is likely the first copy made. The embossed stampings "DO NOT REMOVE, FILE COPY" are present on the front as well. This original 7" X 9 1/2" photo includes markings and notes on the reverse side that make these Type I photos so special, with forensics and clues to the photographer, history and use.
