For more than a quarter century, volunteers from the worlds of sports, entertainment, business, law, and civic life have produced an inspirational annual event that honors athletes such as David Beckham, Lindsey Vonn and Kobe Bryant, while raising funds to solve some of the more challenging mysteries of human health. The mission of the annual Cedars-Sinai Sports Spectacular is to support the Sports Spectacular Diabetes and Obesity Wellness and Research Center at Cedars-Sinai in Los Angeles in order to increase resources for children and adults battling diabetes and obesity. In addition, each year, the Sports Spectacular Fellowship Endowment provides five deserving physician-scientists the opportunity to develop clinical and research skills in an immersive community of knowledge that includes mentoring from Cedars-Sinai faculty.

This lot features the Cedars-Sinai Sports Spectacular Lifetime Achievement Award in Sports that was presented to L.A. Dodgers’ pitching great Don Drysdale on June 16, 1990. The 14” tall gold-plated award shows a uniquely designed mother and child metal structure in gold standing atop a black marble base that measures seven inches across. On the front of the base is an engraved plaque the reads with the aforementioned information. Drysdale, a Los Angeles native from Van Nuys, California, enjoyed a fruitful, 14-year career with the Dodgers in which he posted a 209-166 record.

Includes LOA from the Drysdale Family.
