The late, great Don Drysdale announced his retirement from Major League Baseball on August 11, 1969. A torn rotator cuff in his pitching shoulder spelled the end for his pitching career. Less than two weeks later, despite his injury, the recently retired Drysdale found himself participating in the Dodgers/Angels Old Timers Day Game on August 24, 1969. This lot features the fully functioning, specially engraved, gold-plated, water-resistant Wittnauer wristwatch Drysdale received that day. Showing little if any wear, the watch is engraved on the back with the following text: “ANGELS-DODGERS OLDTIMERS GAME ANAHEIM STADIUM AUG. 24, 1969.” Still ticking, the watch comes packaged inside its original Wittnauer burgundy presentation box.

Includes LOA from the Drysdale Family.
