Walt Whitman said it best: “Baseball, it’s our game….it’s America’s Game." This lot shows in a unique way what prompted the great poet to utter those words one hundred and fifty years ago. This collection of baseball tin types that took our consignor Mr. Schwartz literally decades to carefully assemble.

Sixty-five of the baseball tin types measure approximately 2 1/2” by 3 1/2”. Six are encased, three others are slightly larger and five slightly smaller. Most in the collection show ball players in uniform and some are wearing baseball caps and emblems on their uniforms. Most of the ball players are shown with bats and/or equipment and/or baseballs. There is a portrait, several in pitching or catching poses and many with single or dual ball players. There are multi-player and team tin types as well. A few are colorized. Many are player poses in studios and others were taken outside. The condition is generally quite strong, though naturally there is some spotting and scratching on some of the tin types. We strongly encourage bidders to inspect this group during our live exhibition.

Estimate: $15,000-25,000
