Presented here is a powerful original portrait photo of Yankees legend Lou Gehrig taken by legendary Chicago photographer George Burke. The work of the renowned baseball photographer is treasured by historians of our National Pastime, and this incredible shot of the Iron Horse is one of Burke's finest efforts. Burke was able to work his photography magic with nothing more than the mechanics of a rather rudimentary camera and a special understanding of the balance between light and shadow.

Snapped in the early 1930s, this revered Burke portrait captures a smiling Gehrig at a candid moment in the dugout before a game. The famous photo has been well-documented as Gehrig's favorite image of himself, and for good reason. It truly embodies the joy that Larrupin' Lou felt playing the game he loved for the New York Yankees. The photograph measures 7½ by 9½ inches and presents in near pristine condition. The surface has a couple tiny impressions, but that's being overly critical. The clairty and definition of Gehrig's angelic face are nothing short of spectacular. Adding to the aesthetics are the clean white borders and symmetrically curved corners. The clean reverse has the important "Geo. Burke 847 Belmont Ave. Chicago" stamp. The classic photograph has been encapsulated Type I by PSA/DNA.

Classic Early 1930s Lou Gehrig Original Portrait Photograph by George Burke (Noted as Gehrigs Favorite Image of Himself!) – PSA/DNA Type 1
