Hall of Fame umpire Nestor Chylak barely survived World War II's Battle of the Bulge, earning the Silver Star and Purple Heart for his bravery and sacrifice. His career as a major league umpire spanned a quarter of a century, in which time he became one of the most respected umpires in the American League. His Hall of Fame induction prompted a run on the few Chylak signatures out there. Any form of his signature is rare and desirable, and the unearthing of a single signed baseball is almost too good to be true. Inscribed on the side panel, “Best Wishes, Nestor Chylak Jr. A.L. Umpire” rating 7-8/10. The unused OAL (MacPhail) ball grades Excellent with a few scattered spots of toning. Full LOA from PSA/DNA
