This lot features a Detroit Tigers team jacket worn by a player or coach that dates from the the mid-1940's to the mid-1950’s. The robust black leather jacket with gray sleeves (weighing almost 4 pounds due its thick inner lining) boasts a large, embroidered Old English white “D” for Detroit on the left chest and shows significant wear. The zipper remains in fine working condition and all elements are intact and as-issued. The proper Wilson Sports Equipment manufacturer’s tag appears on the inside rear collar with size 44 flag tag showing. A number “25” in white marker is written on the inside right front tail next to the zipper. We've seen other vintage Tigers team jackets marked in similar fashion, perhaps by the same team equipment manager.
Only two Tigers wore #25 during this specific era, including Hall of Famer Al Kaline in his first two MLB seasons (1953-54) before switching to his more famous #6. Most likely it belonged to pitcher Hal White (1942-51).
