In 2022, Hall of Fame voters corrected a decades-long wrong by finally enshrining Gil Hodges in Cooperstown. Originally a backup catcher, Gil Hodges switched to first base and quickly became the Dodgers’ quiet leader, both on and off the field. Gil’s calming presence kept the team grounded during some of the hottest pennant races in baseball history, culminating in seven pennants and a two World Championships. Following his retirement as a player, Gil furthered his Hall of Fame credentials by piloting the New York Mets to their incredible 1969 World Series victory.

This Type I photo may appear familiar because it was used as the basis for Hodges’ 1950 and 1951 Bowman baseball cards. The photo shows some edge wear with a small crease in the upper right border and very light toning throughout. The reverse of the photo carries the Brooklyn National League Baseball Club stamp as well as handwritten notations in both pen and pencil. A classic photo of the newest Hall of Famer used for two of his most iconic baseball cards. The 8” x 10” photograph has been encapsulated and graded Type I by PSA/DNA.
