This is a beautiful Type 1 photo study of Lou Gehrig’s first base form. The photo was taken before the August 21, 1936, game against Boston at Yankee Stadium. Lou was hitting a sizzling .381 at the time and his New York Yankees were on the verge of what would eventually be four straight World Championships. 1936 would go down as one of Gehrig’s greatest seasons, his 49 home runs and 167 runs scored would lead the league and he’d be crowned the league’s Most Valuable Player for the second time in his career. The afternoon this photo was snapped, Gehrig went 1 for 4 with a double and a walk as New York beat Boston, 4-1. This Type 1 photo captures Gehrig with a playful expression on his face as he poses as if to catch a throw to first. The photo measures 7” x 9” and shows light wear along the edges. The reverse has some staining from glue and carries the original Associated Press cation slug affixed along with various date stamping and credit stamps. A wonderful photo of Lou Gehrig at the very height of his career. The image has been encapsulated and graded a Type 1 Authentic by PSA.
