Not often does a pair of vintage George Burke original photographs signed by two Yankee legends come up for auction, let alone with the official Burke stamped envelope used to transport them from his Chicago studio. Offered here are two such sepia tone beauties, each inscribed to a gentleman from Orlando, Florida named Bobby Daniels. The 4x6-inch shot of the Iron Horse is signed and inscribed "To Bobby, Best Wishes, Lou Gehrig" in 6/10 blue fountain pen. The 3-3/8" by 5" shot of Vernon Gomez is autographed "To Bobby, With Best Wishes, Sincerely, Lefty Gomez" in 8/10 black ink.
In each image, the Hall of Famer dons his New York road uniform in a nearly identical pose atop the dugout steps. Both have the Geo. Burke studio and address stamped on the reverse. Gehrig's shot is crease-free within a rectanguler white border. It comes EX/EX-MT with some white surface chips near the bottom. The Gomez shot is hand-cut at the top and bottom with a white border on the sides. It presents NM with clear imagery and a nearly flawless surface. Also included with the original Geo. Burke envelope is the recipient's 1935-dated note mentioning each photo. The Gehrig photo comes with a full LOA from PSA/DNA.
