Jimmie Foxx, Mickey Cochrane, Al Simmons and Lefty Grove were the key
cogs behind the tremendously successful run of the Philadelphia Athletics from the late
1920s to the early 30s. From 1927 to 1933 Connie Mack's boys finished
either first or second in the American League, winning three straight
pennants and back-to-back World Series titles in 1929 and 1930. Unfortunately, this dynasty was overshadowed by a better one in New York wearing pinstripes.
The ball
presented here is one of the finest examples we've seen signed by this
Hall of Fame foursome of players. Each has signed in strikingly bold
blue ink on the Official American Association (T.J. Hickey) ball. We
date the ball most likely to 1932 based on the presence of Eddie Madjeski. Jimmy Dykes and Mule Haas have also signed this ball. The autographs average 8-9/10 in strength and eye appeal. Foxx is slightly smeared on the sweet spot. The lightly solid and toned ball is in EX-MT shape with a scuff on Cochrane's panel.
