Hal Chase is best remembered as an unsavory character whose entire career was spent under a cloud of suspicion. Accused of throwing games throughout his many years, he was able to beat the charges until finally he was banned for life after the 1919 Black Sox scandal. Hal was not done with baseball though, and the Pacific Coast League, always looking for a draw, welcomed him with open arms. It was during that time that he likely swung this personal Model Hillerich & Bradsby bat. “Prince Hal’s” hefty 36-inch, 36-ounce block letter (last name only) weapon was turned during the 1921-1931 labeling period. Sporting a deep brown patina and a Hornsby knob, this white ash example shows heavy use, with ball and surface marks throughout, as well as a 10" slice of wood missing from the back barrel. Includes LOA from MEARS (Graded A-7) Graded GU-4 by John Taube and an additional LOA from John Taube of PSA/DNA (GU4).
