A tremendous formal portrait of the iconic college football coach Knute Rockne. In his 13 years at the helm of Notre Dame’s football squad, Rockne led the Fighting Irish to over 100 victories and three national championships. This portrait was taken by the famous photographers George W. Harris and Martha Ewing whose Washington, D.C. studio documented countless politicians and celebrities in the first half of the 20th century. Harris and Ewing’s artistry comes through in this perfectly lighted and framed portrait. This Type 1 photo shows edge wear with corner creasing and several pin holes. None of this affects the impact of Rockne’s stoic portrait. The Reverse carries Harris & Ewing’s stamp along with that of Globe Photos and handwritten notations. Some glue residue is present from production use. The photo has been encapsulated and graded a Type 1 by PSA.
