To a baseball purest, there are few things sweeter than Babe Ruth’s swing. At the same time mighty yet graceful, Ruth perfected a swing in which he was able to launch a baseball into an elegant arc that cleared outfield fences at a rate never seen before. This image, taken on the road, depicts the Babe as he gazes skyward and follows the results of one of his swings. By studying the stirrup style he is wearing, it can be determined that this photograph was taken during the 1921 or 1927 seasons, both of which were especially significant in Ruth’s career. 1921 was the first year the Yankees made the World Series, powered in part by Ruth’s 59 home runs, setting baseball’s new single season record. And 1927 was the season in which the Babe broke that single season record with his 60 home runs. Either way, this is a tremendous action shot of Ruth doing what he did best. The Type 1 photograph measures 6 5/8” x 10 ¾” and is printed to its edges. There is some surface scuffing present, along with some light specs throughout, most noticeably in the background to the right of his knees. The edges show some chipping and has been unevenly trimmed during the production process with a rectangular piece missing in the upper edge. A rare extreme close up of a classic image of Ruth captured in a Type 1 print. This piece has been encapsulated and graded a Type 1 Authentic by PSA.
