Ozzie Smith, the great St. Louis Cardinals shortstop and first-ballot Hall of Fame inductee in 2002, earned an astounding 13 National League Gold Glove awards during his 19-year MLB career. Nicknamed “The Wizard of Oz” due to his incredible acrobatic catches at short, Smith was also a 15-time N.L. All-Star selection and a World Series champion with the Cards in 1982.
This lot features a circa 1993 Ozzie Smith autographed and game-worn St. Louis Cardinals baseball cap. The 100% wool, New Era Diamond Collection Authentic Pro Model cap (size 6 7/8) is sporting the official “STL” logo embroidered in white and outlined in blue on the front and shows obvious signs of wear with sweat stains and discoloration throughout the liner. His uniform number “1” appears in black marker on the underside of the bill just above his signature, also in black marker. A MEARS authentication label (#302442) also appears on the underside of the brim. A classic piece of game-worn sports memorabilia captured during the twilight playing years of one of the sport’s most beloved players.
