Here then is a nifty pair of cleats from "Donnie Baseball," arguably the biggest star in Major League Baseball in the 1980's. Mattingly emerged as the Yankees' starting first baseman after a successful rookie season in 1983 and was named to the American League All-Star team six times. He won nine Gold Glove Awards, three Silver Slugger Awards, the 1984 AL batting title, and was the 1985 AL Most Valuable Player. Mattingly served as captain of the Yankees from 1991 through 1995, when he retired as a player. The Yankees retired Mattingly's uniform number, 23, after his retirement.
These Size 10 shoes have "Converse" imprinted in black on a white heel protective piece; the black stitch embroidered Converse "Star" label appear5s on the tongue flap of each shoe, and his No. 23 is hand written in green marker on the white heel piece. The shoes show game use and are quite pristine, with black laces intact and without incident. Mattingly has provided his autograph on the white leather graphic on the right shoe in green ballpoint.
