Anything worn on the field by the incomparable "Sultan of Swat" is in an elite category of sports memorabilia. One of the most unique game worn Babe Ruth items we’ve handled is this navy blue wool stirrup sock from the late 1920's or early 1930's. The item carries tremendous provenance in the form of a letter from Ralph C. Langham which explains "My father Ralph Langham coached the Westchester All-Stars in the 1930's. In that capacity the team bought the New York Yankees uniforms that they would use as their uniforms the following season" The letter goes on the explain that the purchase included Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig's uniforms, and that during WWII his Grandmother made clothing from the uniforms. This stocking is all that was left. Centered at the top of this navy blue stirrup is a white tag reading "G Ruth" in red embroidered stitching. The “A G Spalding Bros” manufacturers tag is sewn in as well. The stirrup sock shows normal game use and appears to be completely original and unaltered. Numerous photos can be found showing Babe Ruth wearing what appears to be this exact type of uniform stirrup sock.
